2000 COMPUSTAT Changes
  • Price-Dividends-Earnings file format - The price and shares fields have been expanded to accomodate decimal pricing and increases in shares traded. These changes will affect FORTRAN programs that access the PDE data, but will not affect SAS programs that access the data.

  • New Segment Data - COMPUSTAT has introduced a new format for segment files. This format replaces the "Industry Segment" and "Geographic Segment" files.

    Executive Compensation
  • Variable Types - Values defined as character have been converted to numeric values where appropriate, including the variable PERMID. For a complete list of all the variable types, refer to the Executive Compensation description.

  • GVKEY - A variable for GVKEY was created along with a corresponding index. This value is equivalent to PERMID.

  • Revised Labels - Label names have been revised to better represent variable descriptions.

    • Introducing COMPUSTAT Global Vantage
    WRDS is delighted to announce the availability of Global Vantage...

    The Standard & Poor's COMPUSTAT (Global) database offers fundamental financial and market data on mroe than 12,500 publicly trade companies in 65 countries around the world. The database covers 95 local market indexes and includes up to 12 years of historic data, as well as cross translation tables for more than 110 currencies including the Euro. A team of highly skilled Standard&Poor's data specialists, representing 19 individual countries and 21 different languages, collect and standardize COMPUSTAT (Global) data assuring the highest standards for accuracy, quality and timeliness.

    If your institution subscribes to WRDS and has a current subscription to COMPUSTAT Global Vantage, you will be granted access to the data through WRDS. If you are interested in subscribing to Global Vantage, send e-mail to wrds@wharton.upenn.edu.
